Poems should reflect aspects of present day life in the local area, or a revealing character description of a local person, rather than science-fiction, futuristic or foreign settings.
2018 Poetry Workshop Dates
South Taranaki Distict Libraries offer free writing workshops with Judges of the awards. 2018 workshop dates are June 7-9. To attend a secondary school student workshop please contact your HOD English for details.
This year it is planned that the adult poetry workshop will be held separately to the adult short story workshop to enable writers to attend both if they choose.

Airini's workshop will cover using imagery in poetry. "We will do an exercise to do with engaging all 5 senses in our writing. We will also look at the use of metaphor and simile, and do some collaborative exercises with this, as well as some individual writing if there is time." In judging I will be looking for originality, integrity and a degree of poetic craft, or something unexpected that takes me by surprise.
Entries are limited to five per person.

Entries must be uploaded with your entry form. (you will be prompted to do this when filling out your online entry form.)
The work must be titled.
Your name must not appear on the work.
The work must be original. It must not have won any other award nor been published prior this competition. South Taranaki District Council reserves the right to publish entries
Entries are invited from all residents or ratepayers of the Taranaki region over the age of 13 Years.
You must not be eligible for the secondary school division of the Awards.

Entries are invited from all secondary school students whose parents/guardians are residents or ratepayers of the South Taranaki District.
