Short stories should reflect aspects of present day life in the local area, or a revealing character description of a local person, rather than science fiction, futuristic or foreign settings.

South Taranaki District Libraries offer free writing workshops with Judges of the awards.

Short Story Guidelines
- Entries are limited to five per person.
- Maximum length 2,000 words.
- The competition opens on June 10 2019. Enter from this website (Terms & Conditions drop down menu)
- Entries close Friday 16 August 2019 11.59pm
- Entries must be a word document in Arial 12 font.
- Entries must be uploaded with your entry form. (you will be prompted to do this when filling out your online entry form.)
- The work must be titled.
- Your name must not appear on the work.
- The work must be original. It must not have won any other award nor been published prior this competition. South Taranaki District Council reserves the right to publish entries.
Open Short Story/Drama Script
- Entries are invited from all residents or ratepayers of the Taranaki region over the age of 13 Years.
- You must not be eligible for the secondary school division of the Awards.
- Entries are invited from all secondary school students whose parents/guardians are residents or ratepayers of the South Taranaki District.
