Short stories should reflect aspects of present day life in the local area, or a revealing character description of a local person, rather than science fiction, futuristic or foreign settings.
Short Story/Drama Script Workshop Dates
South Taranaki District Libraries offer free writing workshops with Judges of the awards. 2018 workshop dates are June 5-9. To attend a secondary school student workshop please contact your HOD English for details.
This year it is planned that the adult poetry workshops will be held separately to the adult short story workshops to enable writers to attend both if they choose.

Lifting your Writing Mary-anne will concentrate on helping you lift your writing to the next level. She will discuss some aspects of craft, but there will also be opportunity to learn about polishing and editing a piece of work. Mary-anne will share her writing habits for fiction and non-fiction and help you find the heart of your story. Could each participant please bring, pen and paper, and a favourite writing quote or a question on writing.

Maximum length 2,000 words.

Entries must be uploaded with your entry form. (you will be prompted to do this when filling out your online entry form.)
The work must be titled.
Your name must not appear on the work.
The work must be original. It must not have won any other award nor been published prior this competition. South Taranaki District Council reserves the right to publish entries.

Entries are invited from all residents or ratepayers of the Taranaki region over the age of 13 Years.
You must not be eligible for the secondary school division of the Awards.
Secondary Short Story/Drama Script
Entries are invited from all secondary school students whose parents/guardians are residents or ratepayers of the South Taranaki District.
